Holistic care is at the core of our approach at Ballinamore House Nursing Home Co. Mayo and our care team works hard to ensure that all our residents’ medical, emotional, physical and spiritual needs are met. Family is also very important and many of our activities are designed to include family members of all ages so birthdays, anniversaries, special events and everything in between can be celebrated and enjoyed together.
Weekly activities
Our full-time activity coordinator schedules a range of activities that cater for residents’ varying interests, skill levels and abilities, from word searches, bingo and art classes to aromatherapy, garden walks and exercise classes. We also use a magic Table which creates an interactive environment for residents to partake in as well as being used on a one to one basis for residents whom may be in bed it can project images that can be both stimulating and if needed comforting and calming .
We try within our monthly residents meetings to organise monthly activities that everyone wants to do. We have also started our outings again post covid and as always try to get outside as much as we can.
As with everything activities is personal choice to participate or not and some people love group activities and other function better on a one to one basis.
We have recently introduced a reflexology day every week in the home aimed more at residents whom are not able to be so involved in more physical activities.
Local Excursions
Residents love our regular excursions to local places of interest including the Museum of Country of Life, garden centres, Knock and even to breathe in the fresh sea air at Enniscrone.
Special Events
During the summer months we relish the warmer weather and enjoy barbeques and our meals outdoors as often as we can. The Ballinamore House Nursing Home family fun day is a particular treat with fabulous food, face painting, bouncy castle and music. Race days come alive with glamorous race wear including hats for the ladies and smart wear for the men, while mock money is printed and a bookie visits to give residents a chance to bet on their favourites.
We try throughout the year to have themed days which the residents enjoy and most importantly along with family we will help celebrate residents Birthdays and anniversaries . Special attention is always paid to residents reaching milestones in their lives … Needless to say there always seems to be alot of cake around !!!
